I did it! I flipped back to WordPress from Drupal – again! It was time for a fresh start – something new. I needed a new site, and I needed to do it fast, because as every designer knows, you never have enough time to work on your own website. I actually do like Drupal – you can do anything you want with it. The problem is it usually takes a long time, and upgrades can be a huge hassle. I also felt it wasn’t advancing as fast as WordPress is, and decided to give WordPress another go.

Why did I need a new website? Well, the old one was… old. It was time to incorporate the latest in web trends, and the typography was killing me. Free fonts often give you what you pay for. (There are lots of great fonts out there for free – but the look I was going for didn’t seem to have it.) We have some lovely new fonts now using TypeKit. Makes me much happier.

I also did my previous site completely by hand – no libraries, no frameworks, no starter nothing. It meant that there were holes in it, since I didn’t do bullet proof testing the way I would have for a client. I checked it out on the handful (8?) devices I had, and they worked fine. But every now and then, somebody would tell me something didn’t work on their device. Especially as newer phones came out with bigger screens and insanely high pixel densities. And I didn’t think it was worth it to fix an website, when I could probably spend the same time on a new one.

This time around, I knew what I wanted my new site to look like, and I scoured the web on and off for a few weeks until I found a theme I could start with. I didn’t feel I needed to prove any more that I can build a website from scratch. Also, I’m a fan of using the tools you have. So with theme in hand, I customized and styled away, and you now have what you see here!

I also hope to be using this website differently. I chucked most of my old blog – which itself had blog articles from my previous 2 websites. I felt it was time for something new. This isn’t really a “blog” any more. I don’t feel any pressure to post. I will post when I think I have something I need to say, or something that I’d like the community to read or comment on. If that means 6 months go by – that’s fine.

So you have it – a new website. New look, fresh, clean, airy and full of whitespace.

I hope you enjoy it!
